Sign of the times and of family and society

We all like to think we’re more sociable these days, with social networks all the rage, but are families, relationships and trust all on the wane ? Are we all becoming increasingly selfish ? One small indication perhaps indicates that regrettably these suggestions may be true.

New research indicates a big shift in couples being willing to share finances, in that 5 years ago, only a quarter of couples thought it was important to keep their bank accounts but now the figure is much higher. In a survey of 2,000 people undertaken by first direct :-

  • 58% of couples are unwilling to set up a joint account when moving in together
  • a further 21% of couples will only set up a joint account to pay joint bills
  • only 18%  of couples buy a property with both names on the mortgage
